Tour Overview
Spend your first day and evening around the interesting town of Cong. Photo locations include Ashford Castle, Cong Abbey, the River Cong and forest, as well as the town itself. This picturesque village was the setting for John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara’s film The Quiet Man. Turlough O’Connor, the King of Connacht and High King of Ireland founded the Augustinian Abbey in the early twelfth century.

Move on to your home base for the next five evenings, located in the Town of Westport, which was voted Ireland’s Tidiest Little Town three times. This honor or award was designed to promote the most attractive, cities, towns, and villages of Ireland. You will be walking distance to the quaint shops and lovely pubs with live traditional Irish music each evening. Days will be spent photographing and exploring Croagh Patrick, Achill Island, a famine village, abbeys, lochs, and more.
You’ll then travel further south of Shannon to explore some of Eileen’s favorite photo locations along the way to County Kerry. Your last base will be located there, photographing each day along the dramatic coastline of the Dingle Peninsula. There will be plenty of time to photographing the amazing cliffs, landscape, and natural wonders. Western Ireland affords us a unique opportunity in that there are so many wonderful hidden places to explore.
You will enjoy traditional Irish breakfasts during your stay. Lunch will be at various restaurants and pubs, or we can stop in town and have a picnic lunch wrapped for your daily excursions in the field. Transportation is provided in a roomy tour van, which is large enough for both the group and your equipment.
