Our tours to Nuuk, Greenland were very succesful with Ron in 2022 & 24, and Ron is excited to return next year with a group of like-minded fellow photographers who want to be at the right place at the right time.

The accommodations in Western Greenland are located in the center of Nuuk with choice of restaurants to walk to, and boat excursions in heated cabin with bathroom on board.

Greenland will also include one evening of ‘Glamping’. Your private boat will cruise along the fjords and end up at your glamping site in which you will overnight one evening under the stars.

There is a pathway from the dock to the tent site (see images) and an ATV is on site should someone need assistance. Anyone who is reasonably fit and able to handle their own gear will enjoy this once in a lifetime experience. We also highly recommend taking collapsible walking sticks in Greenland should you decide to venture further afield.

Join accomplished photographer, teacher, and guide, Ron Rosenstock on this special tour of Western Greenland. Ron is a veteran tour leader, taking a groups since 2005 and to Greenland since 2017; he has also conducted more than 200 tours to numerous other destinations worldwide.

Ron taught photography at Clark University in Worcester for thirty years. He has published five books of his exquisite black and white photographs: The Light of Ireland, Hymn to the Earth, Chiostro (Cloister), Inspirations (Iceland), and Invisible Light (infrared images) His color book, Journeys, contains work from multiple countries. Ron has had over one hundred solo exhibitions, both in the U.S. and abroad, and his photographs can be found in the permanent collections of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, the Worcester Art Museum in Worcester, Massachusetts, and the International Center of Photography in New York City.

Ron is happy to share his vision, insight, and technical expertise with all who travel with him. Although he now uses a digital camera, his philosophy of teaching has not changed since his early large-format-film days. Ron believes that the photograph comes from within. He teaches exercises that will help that creative spirit come to the surface. These may consist of 1) entry ways to seeing, and 2) photographing in the NOW. Ron also addresses practical aspects of photographing with a digital camera as needed and demonstrates post-capture digital editing using a digital projector during several evening teaching sessions. He will share his thoughts on printing, exhibiting, and getting your work out there.

Most people who travel with Ron have a basic understanding of how their digital cameras work. Others know everything about their camera. All participants are welcome. Although Ron’s approach is grounded on technical competence, he believes it is more important to be aware of one’s own creative process. Please feel free to view Ron’s website www.ronrosenstock.com and e-mail him with any questions at [email protected].

What to Expect

Enjoy five evenings in Greenland in very comfortable accommodations. Weather permitting, there will be two chances to photograph the Northern Lights, one from your Glamping overnight stay and the other in Nuuk (see Ron’s cover photo). All participants need to be able to get in and out of boats with their camera gear in hand (which are easily accessible via docks) and go out on various walks during your stay (walking sticks recommended, if you choose to walk over uneven surfaces). Strabo Tours will distribute recommended flights for clients to book. This should be done as soon you are notified, as flights do not operate every day of the week and you certainly want to be on the group flight with entire group. Non-stop Round trip tickets from Newark are approximiately $1350 at this time, per person.

Be prepared for early morning and evening cold temps, with long hours outside each day. Given this information, you will be amazed by the landscape and imagery you capture in these beautiful, untamed settings. It’s a must see for all photographers.

Meals will be of the local variety, which will consist of seafood, and lamb, with limited meat and chicken while in Greenland. Notify Strabo Tours of any dietary restrictions. You may wish to pack specific snacks in your checked luggage.

It is fairly common for flights (domestic and International) to be delayed or even canceled for a day or more due to the Arctic weather. The flights to Greenland are limited and do not take place every day. For these reasons, we strongly encourage you to take out travel insurance, as Strabo Tours cannot be held responsible for Airline changes or cancellations.

Well organized, generous meals and very comfortable accommodations.Lovely hotel in Nuuk, and the Glamping was memorable. Thank you for putting together such a great trip and know that traveling with our photo instructor was a real pleasure. Their passion, optimism, joy and engaging stories are inspiring!

Known as a land of fire and ice, Iceland’s topography is stark and diverse, with a light that seems to emanate from within.  In a land subject to violent forces of nature, Ron’s quiet, yet powerful, vision is able to capture the country’s pristine beauty.  Many of his images of snow patterns, broken ice, surf, and lava, tend to create abstract patterns that draw the viewer in. And, throughout the book, Ron evocatively captures the softness of waterfalls and swirling tides, as well as the power of lava formations and sea stacks. Even if you have been to Iceland, one is mysteriously touched by the haunting landscape.  And, if, like me, you haven’t been there – his captivating photographs make you long to visit this vast, unspoiled country

Ron was the perfect leader for this trip. He is organized, supportive and very generous with advice and his camera equipment. I would definitely do another trip with him.

WOW!  Our trip this summer with you to Greenland and Iceland was a trip to remember for a lifetime. Greenland was an adventure, we loved it! The Icebergs, boating, staying in an Inuit village.  and the scenery were fantastic. In Iceland, at each place we stayed and ate we were so well taken care of, thanks to all the planning done beforehand. We love traveling with you Ron, you calmly adjust to situations and you bring us to fantastic places. ‘Till next time…

Bottom line: the trip was awesome! I think it was all & more than as advertised. We got what we went there fore…. outstanding photography & adventure. Ron has many repeat clients for his tours because he is a consummate photographer, a great organizer, and a great tour leader. Everything else was top noth. The accommodations & meals in Iceland were all any of us could expect. The local Danish chef who cooked all our meals in Greenland was extraordinary, we admired him and became good friends.

It is amazing what your local guide in Greenland is doing in Tasiilaq. His houses were great to stay in, a real taste of Greenland life. He is also an excellent captain, it ws a real treat being out on the water with him. Ron does a fantastic job. Tour Itinerary

September 8: Home - Nuuk

United now offers direct flights from Newark airport to Nuuk, Greenland two days of the week. If you are connecting in Newark you will want to have a few hours between flights if there is inclement weather. The flight departs Newark on Tuesdays at 11:30AM. Another option would be to fly to Newark on September 7 and overnight at an airport hotel, in which several offer shuttle service.

The flight from Newark lands in (GOH) Nuuk, Greenland this evening at 6:45PM. There will be tranfer service to your group hotel. (Meals on plane)

September 9-12: Nuuk

The day-by-day events can always change depending on weather, light, and the sea conditions. Your leader will take these factors into consideration as they plan the schedule for the next day.

9th: Your first morning in Nuuk is planned after breakfast, where you will have a day on foot. Ron will notify you what time to meet in the lobby. There are locations for your walking tour of the architecture and scenes of Greenland, including the half mile long boardwalk along the sea. There will be time off to relax or work on your images. Ron will also give talks on what to expect when aboard the boat, photographing the Northern Lights, and what to pack for the cruise outings, which start tomorrow. Given proper weather conditions this evening there will be a sunset vehicle tour at various locations in Nuuk. (B, D)

10th: The next day you begin your Ice fjord tour from 9AM to 3PM. You will photograph the immense landscape and may experience wildlife like whales, seals, birdlife, including white-tipped eagles. Since you will be at sea during lunch time you will want to purchase something to take with you the night before or very early this morning.

Take a bit of time to rest or review your images late this afternoon and meet Ron in the hotel lobby for a review. Dinner is on your own this evening, and there are various options within walking distance of the hotel.

After dinner this evening you will need time to pack an overnight bag with all your essentials (camera gear, medicines, all important documents, etc.) for your glamping experience tomorrow. (B)

11th: The next morning you travel via the sea to your Glamping location. There will be plenty to photograph along the way, fjords, icebergs, landscape, and more. Arrive to your remote destination and get settled into your environs for the afternoon and evening. The terrain consists of a pathway to the tent site, and an ATV is available to move your gear, or should someone not want to walk. There are uneven rocks all over the island, therefore if you wish obtain different vantage points, we suggest packing a collapsible walking stick. The destination is deep in the Nuuk fjord, with fantastic hiking opportunities, large tents with comfortable beds and a view you can enjoy. There are heaters in tents and outhouses just outside each tent. The place is completely out of internet range, so be prepared to be disconnected while enjoying nature and its silence. If you’d like, there will be an opportunity to get into a dry suit and go on a paddleboard or kayak in the fjord that often times has icebergs. The evening may be the best chance for Northern Lights as you will be far away from the city lights. Your meals are served in a mess tent close by. (B, L, D; B, L)

12th: Return to Nuuk, arriving around 2PM. There will be time on your own or with Ron late this afternoon. There is an excellent Greenland National Museum in town, and various other photo ops. Enjoy your farewell dinner this evening. Since it is your last evening in Greenland, and if the weather cooperates you will have a vehicle transfer for Northern Lights this evening. (B, D) OVERNIGHT 9, 10, & 12, NUUK HOTEL, GLAMPING 11TH

September 13: Nuuk - Home

There will be a transfer back to the Nuuk airport very early this morning for an 8AM flight back to Newark where you can connect home. . (B box)
